In observance of Juneteenth, the City of Detroit has announced a closure of most city offices tomorrow, recognizing the day as an official holiday. Essential services such as Police, Fire, and Water and Sewerage will continue to operate without interruption, according to the City of Detroit's website.
Despite the holiday, Detroit's Department of Public Works will not be taking the day off, with refuse, bulk, yard waste, and curbside recycling collection happening as per the usual schedule. Commercial customers can also expect service, and all drop-off locations will remain open, offering uninterrupted waste management to the city's residents.
Detroit's Department of Transportation (DDOT) is set to maintain regular bus services on Juneteenth. While its Administration Offices at 100 Mack Avenue will close, DDOT has made clear that transit users can plan their trips using the schedule information found on the city's website or by reaching out to Customer Service at (313) 933-1300 for assistance.
Riders of the Detroit People Mover can anticipate the standard hours of operation, which run from 6:30 a.m. to midnight. Parking enforcement will take a day off, allowing free metered parking throughout the city on June 19, although this holiday perk excludes residential permit parking zones. Regular parking rules apply to important access points like driveways and fire hydrants, and vehicles in violation risk being ticketed.
For those requiring parking facilities, the Ford Underground and Eastern Market garages will both operate within their normal hours and standard fees. The Ford Underground garage fees are set at $5 for the first two hours, scaling up to $10 for 2-4 hours and capping at $15 after 4 hours, while the Eastern Market garage charges a flat fee of $5.
