On the move for enhanced accessibility, the Detroit Department of Transportation is rolling out "DDOT Now," a new same-day paratransit service aiming to better serve residents with disabilities. Starting June 16, those who previously had to book their rides a day in advance will now have the flexibility of scheduling transportation as late as one hour before their intended departure. According to the City of Detroit, "DDOT Now" will be operational Monday through Saturday, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Executive Director of Transit, Robert Cramer, highlighted the spontaneity of travel needs that all individuals face, stating, City of Detroit, "Like anyone, paratransit users can have unexpected transportation needs arise and we want them to know DDOT will be there for them when they need us, even on short notice." The new service is not only a gesture of inclusivity but also a testament to the adaptability of Detroit's transportation network. Calls for bookings are accepted at 313-570-6845, with operating hours for reservations ending an hour before the service itself concludes.

The sentiment of empowerment was echoed by DeMarcus Garrett, Interim Executive Director of DDOT's Paratransit, who emphasized the value of independence that this service provides. "The same-day service model will give our paratransit riders the freedom, independence and flexibility to get to wherever they need to go as quickly as one hour from scheduling their trip," Garrett told the City of Detroit. For those looking to make use of this service, the fare stands at $2.50, matching the standard service charges, with a service area equally unchanged.
