Get ready to meet some cold-blooded locals that are more than just passing neighbors in Wisconsin's diverse habitat. Oak Creek Public Library invites the community to a unique educational experience titled "Reptiles of Wisconsin," where participants will get hands-on knowledge about the amphibians and reptiles that call the state home. Yes, even amid the cheese and Packers fandom, Wisconsin is a place where the scales and the slimy thrive.
Contrary to popular belief, to absolutely discover snakes, lizards, and their kin doesn't require a trek to the tropics or deserts; they're living right alongside us, often unnoticed. This interactive session embarks on July 19 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the library's Multi-purpose Room. It's a family-friendly affair, but kids under 12 need an adult sidekick to join in on the fun. Oak Creek Public Library has confirmed that the event is open to enthusiasts of all ages, aimed to shed light on the significance of these often-underappreciated creatures within our ecosystems.
Attendees will have the opportunity to see up close and possibly touch some of the amphibians and reptiles that Wisconsin is host to. It's a chance to learn about the habitat requirements, behaviors, and benefits that these animals provide, such as pest control and their role in the food chain. "What even is a 'Herp?'" you might ask. It's a term that encompasses both amphibians and reptiles, a fact that the session aims to make clear to all who participate.
