It was an early closure for Silver Beach County Park yesterday as incidents of fighting and disorderly conduct led to law enforcement stepping in. Around 8 p.m., locals looking to enjoy the evening at the park were met with a scene far from peaceful. As reported by WOODTV, Berrien County Sheriff's Office and St. Joseph Department of Public Safety officials arrived on the scene in response to reports of a fight between two individuals that escalated among a larger assembly of youths.

One adult and a minor were briefly detained before citations were handed down. "We will continue to take a zero-tolerance approach to deal with anyone acting outside the laws or ordinances down at Silver Beach," the sheriff’s office said in a release captured by WOODTV. This incident marks the second time the park has been closed due to similar disturbances this month, with an earlier altercation on June 3 leading to the deployment of pepper spray. To potentially identify those involved in the fracas, authorities are asking for video evidence from the public.

According to WZZM13, the skirmish and ensuing disruptive behavior prompted the authorities to shut down the park for the remainder of the evening, citing safety concerns. The park was reopened the following day. This summer has seen a surge in similar events at Silver Beach, with previous instances reportedly fueled by alcohol.

As per a report by WNDU, those with any information, particularly cell phone footage that could assist in identifying the culprits, are urged to contact the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office detective bureau. Ensuring the safety and peace of Silver Beach remains a top priority, with concerted efforts to prevent any future incidences of disorderly conduct.
