
Ellicott City is set to become a safer and more traversable community as Howard County embarks on a new construction project to install a sidewalk and ADA-compliant ramps along Frederick Road, beginning on or about June 16th. The initiative, stretching from Pierce Drive to Font Hill Road, aims to enhance pedestrian transportation and accessibility throughout the area. In addition to sidewalk construction, the plan includes the establishment of a pedestrian crossing complete with a refuge island, bike lane markings, and associated signage to guide residents and visitors alike, according to details from Howard County's official announcement.
With these improvements, local authorities anticipate a completion date in late August. Construction activities are expected to run Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m, weather permitting the county remains committed to enhancing transportation options and fostering community connections, with a notable investment tally over the past seven years Howard County Executive Calvin Ball underscored the value of such initiatives, stating, "Sidewalks create neighborhood connections and provide our residents safe and healthy transportation options. In the last seven years, we have invested more than $65 million in multimodal transportation projects, compared to just $11.6 million during the prior four-year period." He further mentioned that "Projects like this allow us construct, expand, and improve our infrastructure to ensure a safer, healthier, and more inclusive community for all."
