
The first sentence has been issued in a federal case involving a 2023 burglary at a Maryland pawn shop in which dozens of firearms were stolen. Juwon Markel Anderson, 22, was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit firearms trafficking. He will also serve three years of supervised release after completing his prison term, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The burglary occurred on December 13, 2023, at the A&D Pawn Shop in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Anderson and at least four others stole approximately 34 firearms. Anderson was arrested two days later and found in possession of two stolen guns. He has been in custody since his arrest. Judge Amy Berman Jackson issued the sentence.
The case was investigated by the ATF’s Washington and Baltimore Field Divisions along with the Metropolitan Police Department. The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Shehzad Akhtar with support from former Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Lipes.
Four co-defendants are also involved in the case. Tyjuan McNeal, 27, is scheduled for sentencing on Tuesday next week. Vincent Lee Alston, 23, and Niquan Odum, 23, pleaded guilty on March 6. Alston pleaded to conspiracy to commit firearms trafficking. Odum pleaded to conspiracy to commit theft from a firearms licensee and possession of stolen firearms. The final co-defendant, Cy’juan Hemsley, pleaded guilty on May 7. Sentencing for the remaining defendants is pending.
