The National Weather Service (NWS) in Washington D.C. has issued a Flood Watch from Saturday afternoon through the evening due to the potential for heavy rainfall and flooding. The Flood Watch covers parts of D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, including the Washington Metropolitan area, the Virginia Piedmont, and parts of southern Maryland.
Forecasts indicate rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches could occur within one to two hours. There is also a chance that storms may repeatedly affect the same areas, leading to higher totals.
The National Weather Service warns that heavy rain on already saturated ground could cause creeks and streams to rise quickly, increasing the risk of flash flooding, especially in urban areas.
A hazardous weather outlook is in effect through Tuesday, with possible showers and thunderstorms that may produce heavy rain, localized flooding, and isolated damaging wind gusts.
Although spotter activation is not expected, the public is encouraged to report flooding or severe weather to local authorities if it occurs.
