As Juneteenth approaches, the city is adjusting its operating schedule to honor the holiday. According to a release from the City of Fort Worth, most city offices, including City Hall, will be closed on Thursday, June 19. However, emergency services will remain readily available to the community.
For residents concerned about waste disposal, there won't be a break in the pickup schedule. Garbage, recycling, yard waste, and bulk will all be collected as normal despite the holiday. However, the City's four Drop-Off Stations and the Environmental Collection Center take a pause, closing on June 19, resuming normal operations the following day. Fort Worth citizens seeking assistance can contact the solid waste management services at 817-392-1234.
In observance of Juneteenth, the Fort Worth Animal Shelter's Silcox Campus and North Campus will also close their doors for the day. But those looking to adopt a pet have the option to visit PetSmart's adoption locations at Alliance and Hulen, which will stay open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., providing an opportunity for the little ones in need to find a home even during the holiday.
When it comes to recreation, community centers, the Haws Athletic Center, and Log Cabin Village will not welcome visitors on June 19. But the city ensures that not all is lost for those looking to enjoy their day off. Rockwood Park and Pecan Valley golf courses, McLeland Tennis Center, swimming pools, and the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge will greet guests keen on commemorating the day with outdoor activities. For any water-related concerns, Fort Worth's Water Department won't leave residents high and dry, they can use the automated system for payments and account inquiries or report emergencies by calling 817-392-4477 anytime.
