A barbecue gathering in Detroit's west side was cut short last night when gunfire erupted, leaving four adults injured. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Grand River and Greenfield, as confirmed by local police.
The four victims, with whom the suspect was familiar, sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening and were transported to local hospitals, CBS News Detroit reported. Captain Matthew Bray of the Detroit Police Department stated, "All of them were attending the barbecue and knew each other," injecting a personal element to the incident's backdrop, and a suspect was taken into custody shortly after the shooting.
Details regarding the motive and the events that led up to the shooting remain under investigation. "So, we're still working through that right now. I wouldn't be able to give you that right now, to protect the investigation, but we're still working through all those details," Bray explained, as reported by Audacy. The gathering, meant to be a casual communal event, turned into a crime scene.
Police have not disclosed the number of shooters involved or the identity of the suspect in custody, according to a report by Audacy. The genders and ages of the victims remain unspecified, other than noting they are adults. "They are a compilation of males and females," Bray said, "I don't want to get into their actual dates of birth, but they're all of age."
