The Garland City Council is moving the ball down the field for soccer enthusiasts with their recent approval of a $70 million soccer complex and training hub, planned for the intersection of Holford Road and the President George Bush Turnpike. As reported by the City of Garland, this development is set to cater to rising youth athletes and invigorate the local economy, attracting both regional tourism and new business to the area.
Key features of the planned complex include a primary pitch with artificial turf seating for 2,000 spectators and various grass fields designed for everything from training to youth academy matches, meeting a long-standing gap in facilities for the soccer community and creating spaces where families and fans can gather to celebrate and grow alongside the sport.
The incoming Atlético Dallas team, North Texas' debutante in the United Soccer League (USL) Championship tier, expected to launch their first season in 2027, will have their training facility in this hub, which also promises a multipurpose building with team offices, locker rooms, and additional amenities. "This project is about more than soccer—it’s about building something enduring for the people of Garland," Mayor Dylan Hedrick remarked in the announcement, per the City of Garland.
Under a long-term lease with the city, Atlético Dallas and its youth academy will maintain and manage the complex, a move that underscores the efforts to foster young talent, a disparity many have noted for too long has gone unaddressed and, it's hoped, will yield rich dividends in terms of local sports talent development and a thriving Garland community. "We’re excited to partner with the City of Garland to build a place where dreams are born, talent is nurtured, and the Garland community thrives," Matt Valentine, Co-Founder and Chairman of Atlético Dallas, told the City of Garland.
