
An incident this morning at Cowabunga Bay waterpark resulted in the hospitalization of an employee after exposure to pool chemicals and prompted a hazmat response. FOX5 reports that the mishap occurred around 9:30 a.m., before the park opened to the public. Following the incident, the park's opening was delayed, but operations have since resumed.
An employee, whose details have not been released, was affected by the chemical exposure and was subsequently taken to a local hospital in stable condition, as mentioned in the response from Henderson Fire Department. The department arrived at the Henderson-based park at around 10 a.m. to investigate and ensure the safety of the area, before, the park could continue with its scheduled activities.
According to a statement obtained by FOX5, a Cowabunga Bay spokesperson emphasized that "The safety and well-being of our team members and guests is our top priority." They also indicated that updates would be provided as additional information became available. Meanwhile, a representative of the waterpark reiterated this sentiment in a statement given to 8 News Now, stressing the importance of safety at the facility.
The incident was resolved quickly enough that Cowabunga Bay fully reopened by 12:40 p.m., and the park announced that its planned 21+ event for the evening would go ahead as scheduled.
