Howard County has taken a fresh step towards bolstering community safety with the unveiling of a new police satellite office in Elkridge. According to a statement obtained by the Office of Public Information for Howard County, the move aims to enhance police visibility and foster closer ties with the local community.

The office, situated at Green Valley Marketplace, will serve as the new headquarters for patrol officers responsible for Elkridge and its surrounding areas. The idea for the installment came from discussions with Elkridge residents and business owners, who expressed a desire for a stronger, more visible police presence, particularly around key areas such as US 1, the Howard County Library System's Elkridge Branch, Walgreens, and the Green Valley Shopping Center.

Although the new office will not be staffed around the clock, it provides a strategic advantage for officers who can now remain anchored in Elkridge throughout their shifts. They are now able to complete paperwork, perform investigative follow-ups, and engage more intimately with residents and businesses, as noted by Howard County Police Department Chief Gregory Der: "Our goal is to continue to grow positive relationships with residents and businesses to ensure we are providing the best possible service."

This development aligns with various initiatives by Howard County's government and police department to intensify crime prevention efforts. Earlier actions included unveiling a "Crime Reduction Plan" for Downtown Columbia and introducing a permanent, full-time unit of officers dedicated to the area. Additionally, HCPD has fostered partnerships with state agencies to monitor juvenile and adult offenders, contributing to the overall safety strategy.
