In a move geared towards energy conservation, Howard County Government has announced the shutdown of several of its buildings and office locations from today, until Thursday, July 3rd. Information regarding closures and how to remotely conduct business can be found on the County Energy Saving Days website.
According to a statement on the Howard County Government website, Chief Administrative Officer Brandee Ganz asserted, "While we are restricting certain in-person services, these adjustments to our operations will not affect our ability to provide services to our community. Staff will be ready and available to assist residents and other customers on the phone, through online applications, and by email." Essential services, including trash collection, landfill access, recreational facilities, and emergency operations, will continue to operate regularly throughout the holiday week. Despite the building closures, residents should note that the regular curbside schedules for trash, recycling, and yard trimmings remain unaffected. However, due to the Independence Day holiday, the slide schedule will be implemented.
The energy-saving initiative is part of broader efforts to navigate financial challenges while keeping a balanced budget. It also responds to an increased awareness of the environmental impact of daily operations. The scheduled closures align with the July 4th holiday, as many offices are already set to close in observance of Independence Day. The full details of the services that will be available, as well as modifications to the usual schedule, are outlined on the county's July 4th Holiday Closings page.
