In a recent judgement passed down by the Superior Court, Rashaw Henry, 30, from Hyattsville, Maryland, has been slapped with a 60-month sentence over machine gun possession, but the catch is he'll spend a maximum of 24 months behind bars, assuming he sticks to the straight and narrow during a two-year supervised probation thereafter. This news comes courtesy of U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), as they shed light on this particular case.

Hitting the courtroom floor earlier this year on January 24, Henry faced the music at trial, winding up with a guilty verdict on multiple charges: unlawful possession of a firearm (prior conviction), carrying a pistol without a license, possession of a machine gun, possession of an unregistered firearm, and possession of a controlled substance. The sentencing judge, Deborah Israel, decided that after he served the initial 24 months, Henry's remaining time would be on ice, should he manage to toe the line while under probation.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, it all unfolded on March 21, 2024. MPD officers were holding down the fort on M Street NE when they spotted Henry with what was believed to be about one pound of marijuana. His arrest led to the discovery of a Glock 23, made all the more illicit due to an added conversion switch turning it from semi to fully automatic, loaded with ammunition and not a trace of a registration in sight.

The offices of both U.S. Attorney Pirro and Chief Smith have gone public with their praise for the MPD officers whose investigative work pinned down the case. They nodded to Assistant U.S. Attorneys Anne Cotter and William Gandy, whose prosecutorial efforts brought this case to a close.
