The Katy Independent School District (KISD) has made strides in its efforts to bolster the salaries of its teachers and support staff for the 2025-2026 school year. As reported by Click2Houston, the district's Board of Trustees greenlit a new and comprehensive compensation plan which was discussed and approved during a board meeting last night. The initiative, supported by a mix of district funds and House Bill 2, marks a significant investment in the workforce that underpins the district's educational quality.
As part of the outlined compensation strategy, teachers just initiating their careers at KISD, specifically those in their first and second year, will be granted a $2,500 stipend courtesy of the district’s general operating fund. This move, documented by KHOU, illustrates KISD’s proactive approach to support early career educators despite no direct assistance from state laws for newcomers. A $2,500 salary increase awaits fourth-year teachers, while their more experienced colleagues, those in the fifth year and beyond, will enjoy a $5,000 boost.
The board's decision integrates increases across all staff levels, ensuring 3% pay raises for non-administrative support roles, including custodians, transportation workers, and cafeteria employees. Administrators too at campus level, from assistant principals to principals, will see their pay increase by 3%, funded exclusively by KISD resources. “This plan is about valuing every member of our staff, and especially our much sought-after teachers, whether they’re just beginning their careers or have dedicated decades to public education,” Katy ISD Board President Lance Redmon stated in an announcement captured by Click2Houston.
The district is propelled into action by the directives and financial backing of House Bill 2, which was introduced during the 89th Texas Legislative Session to facilitate districts in retaining seasoned teachers. However, the initiative originally did not extend to brand-new faculty members — a gap that KISD took upon itself to fill. According to KHOU, Katy ISD leaders moved expeditiously to ensure first- and second-year teachers were included in the new compensation plan, demonstrating the Board’s dedication to fostering an environment that upholds teacher welfare and recruitment at every level. These changes come as part of a consolidated effort to maintain the district's standard for delivering top-tier education and experience to its students.
