In light of the upcoming King Kamehameha Day Parade, The Kaua‘i Bus has announced temporary adjustments to its 70 Līhu‘e Shuttle schedule taking effect on Saturday, June 14, for a period between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. The route modifications reflect the practical considerations necessary to accommodate the celebratory procession honoring Hawaii's history and legacy, as detailed in a recent press release from Kauai County website.
Several key bus stops on Rice Street won't be serviced including those at intersections with Hoolako Street, Kalena Street, Hardy Street, Umi Street, and Ewalu Street because these streets will be closed to traffic as the parade, which draws both locals and tourists, weaves its history-laden narrative through the heart of Līhu‘e. Buses that typically run at 7:55 a.m., 8:55 a.m., and 9:55 a.m. will instead operate directly from the Garden Island Inn to Līhu‘e Gardens, and subsequently from Eiwa Street at the Līhu‘e Civic Center back to the Garden Island Inn, bypassing the closed sections of the route, according to the Kauai County.
During the parade, the shuttle pick-up and drop-off location will be temporarily moved to Eiwa Street at the Līhu‘e Civic Center, just a short distance from Rice Street. This change helps accommodate the parade and honors King Kamehameha Day with a brief pause in regular traffic, as reported by the Kauai County.
