The North East Tarrant Amateur Radio Club is set to be part of a nationwide cue this weekend as hams across the country tune in for the American Radio Relay League's Field Day event. According to a social media post by Keller Public Safety, the club will represent the region's emergency communication stalwarts by participating in activities scheduled for Saturday, June 28.
From 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., those interested in radio communications can make their way to the second floor of Southlake’s Public Safety building, located at 600 State St. It is an opportunity not just to observe, but to engage directly with the intricacies of ham radio operations. The same post also highlights an avenue for further community involvement through volunteer roles with Keller’s first responders.
This meeting of tech enthusiasts and emergency preparedness volunteers embodies a bigger picture, one where community and readiness intertwine. Ham radio operators have historically been the unsung backup singers of emergency communication, stepping into the breach when modern systems falter. This Field Day serves as a critical drill for when disasters strike and conventional channels fall silent.
