The Kissimmee Police Department's integrity has been called into question following a thorough investigation led by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The final report, released to the public by Kissimmee’s new police chief, Charles Broadway, detailed a series of violations that resulted in drastic repercussions for several officers within the department. A 268-page investigative document revealed that 12 officers faced disciplinary actions for misconduct and untruthfulness, as reported by WFTV.
In response to the findings, Chief Broadway felt compelled to immediately fire three more officers, issue demotions to two others, and impose 24-hour suspensions without pay on three officers. The decisions are deemed only the beginning of a slew of reforms planned within the Kissimmee Police Department. Chief Broadway expressed that his department is currently in "reset mode", committed to embracing new values and ensuring thorough reviews of every investigation leading up to his scrutiny, as detailed by WFTV.
Additional information disclosed by MyNews13 revealed that the completed investigation resulted in the firing of four officers, the resignation of three, and the demotion of two. One officer was cleared of allegations. The internal upheaval follows the accusations against former Kissimmee Police Officer Andrew Baseggio, who was charged with assault and covering up evidence after body camera footage from a 2023 incident showed him using excessive force on Sean Kastner during a mental health crisis.
In light of these events, Broadway reaffirmed his commitment to integrity, stating, "The one thing that law enforcement officers just totally despise is when other officers tarnish this badge, do something contrary to our core values, do something contrary to integrity, do something contrary to dishonorable and noble profession". Broadway intends to decisively strengthen department values and procedures to prevent such misconduct from recurring. This was revealed in an interview with MyNews13.
