A significant structure fire engulfed a two-story commercial building in the Palms neighborhood yesterday evening, as reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). The incident, tagged as INC#1410, broke out at 3387 S Livonia Av, with flames visibly billowing from the rear of the structure. Initially assessed by firefighters who swiftly transitioned into offensive mode to combat the blaze, the situation escalated to involve a separate outbuilding and nearby vegetation, contributing to challenges for the emergency response teams, according to an LAFD alert.
Following the first response, the Los Angeles Fire Department updated the situation at 07:34 p.m. The fire had spread to an outbuilding and vegetation, exacerbating conditions along the 10 Freeway. This additional hazard led to traffic disruptions, affecting eastbound lanes and likely slowing westbound flow as well. The LAFD also included advisories for drivers to seek alternate routes due to smoke and ongoing emergency operations that would impact traffic between National Blvd and Palms Blvd. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and California Highway Patrol (CHP) were on scene to manage the evolving situation.
Complications escalated when an explosion occurred near the burning buildings at approximately 07:41 PM, with the source unknown at the time. Additionally, the LAFD reported downed power lines in the vicinity, posing further risks to the responders and the public. Despite the chaotic circumstances, no injuries have been reported. Assistance from the Culver City Fire Department was enlisted to bolster the response team's efforts to contain the fire.
Ultimately, the LAFD achieved a knockdown of the fire in 43 minutes, involving a collaboration of 84 firefighters and additional resources from Culver City. The building, housing an auto business, succumbed to considerable damage, with an earlier explosion likely linked to vehicular magnesium components on site. Crews remained on scene to oversee overhaul and mop-up operations for an undetermined duration, attentive to persistent safety concerns like arcing wires. While the freeway's eastbound traffic had to be shut down for a time, no injuries were recorded. The full rundown of the firefighting efforts and their outcomes was detailed in LAFD ALERT - KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire 06/01/2025 INC#1410.
