A tragic hit-and-run incident in the heart of Los Angeles has left a local bicyclist dead, prompting an urgent appeal from the LAPD for witnesses to come forward. The collision occurred on the night of June 1, 2025, when Jose Villalobos, a 34-year-old bicyclist riding westbound on Century Boulevard, was struck by a silver Chevrolet Camaro, which fled the scene after hitting him.
The suspect vehicle, described in the LAPD's official report, was seen speeding away, making a right turn onto San Pedro Street, and then heading west on East 98th Street without offering help to Villalobos. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and, regrettably, pronounced Villalobos deceased. Detectives from the LAPD’s South Traffic Division are spearheading the investigation into this felony hit-and-run.
The LAPD has disseminated video footage of the crash on its YouTube channel with the hope that community members might provide insights that could lead to capturing the perpetrator. As part of a citywide effort to deter hit-and-run incidents, Los Angeles offers a reward up to $50,000 for information resulting in the arrest and conviction, or a civil compromise with the offender.
Officials are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the crash or anyone with information to contact Officer Hurd of South Traffic Division at (213)321-9681. Additionally, tips can be submitted anonymously via the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or through the "P3 Tips" mobile app, selecting the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers as the relevant program.
