Officer Austin Shupe and Officer Jacob Bowden were responding to a minor crash caused by a woman experiencing a medical episode. Noticing that the groceries in her vehicle could perish, including a trunkful of frozen goods, Shupe and Bowden made the decision to preserve them. Having been transported to the hospital, the woman could not express her appreciation at that moment. The officers, carrying the groceries, were met by the woman's boyfriend at their home, as described in a LVMPD social media post. Officer Bowden, having earned the boyfriend's trust, then took the car back to the scene and ensured the provisions were safeguarded.
This gesture did not go unnoticed. The woman at the heart of the incident sent a letter to express her gratitude, applauding the officers for their "kindness and thoughtfulness." In recognition of their empathetic service, Officer Shupe and Officer Bowden received a "Good Ticket" from Resorts World Las Vegas, courtesy of the LVMPD Foundation. The community reward consisted of a staycation package, a gesture underscoring that their deeds were more than just part of the job.
