As financial instability looms over the country, Las Vegas has been hit with a significant downturn in tourism, with May visitor numbers dipping 6.5% from the same month last year, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) reported; this decrease comes on the heels of April's 5.1% drop in tourism figures.

Local casinos haven't been spared from the economic pinch that's alarming consumers worried about climbing prices and a murky financial future, the gaming wins on the famous Las Vegas Strip have fallen 3.9% in May which is the fourth month in a row that numbers have backslided according to a release by the Nevada Gaming Control Board reported by news source News3LV.

The airport isn't buzzing with the usual influx of tourists either, with Reid International Airport reporting a drop of 3.9% in travelers last month, and hotel occupancy fell 3.1% year-over-year, with especially noticeable declines along the Strip and downtown hotels which are trying to attract visitors through lower rates.

Not every light is dimming in Sin City, however, one sector that’s seeing increased activity is the convention attendance, with LVCVA highlighting a 10.7% jump from last year's numbers the increase has helped buoy midweek hotel occupancy levels to 79.3% in May, as per 8 News Now.
