Long Beach is gearing up for summer with the return of the Wibit inflatable aquatic playgrounds at Alamitos Beach and Bay Shore Avenue on Friday. According to the City of Long Beach, the free playgrounds are part of the city's effort to provide residents and tourists with accessible, enjoyable summer activities until September 1.

Mayor Rex Richardson expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, "The return of the Wibit aquatic playgrounds is something families across Long Beach look forward to every summer," pointing out the commitment to accessible recreation for all, the aquatic playgrounds feature a variety of floating play structures, including springboards, bouncers, and monkey bars, and will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., supervised by Long Beach Lifeguards ensuring safety for everyone. Second District Councilwoman Cindy Allen and Third District Councilmember Kristina Duggan also highlighted the value these playgrounds bring to the community and the enhancements to Alamitos Bay's recreational offerings.

Rules for the playgrounds include a required swim test for all participants, the mandatory presence of a parent or guardian for each child under 9, and a prohibition against life jackets and personal floatation devices on the waterplay features; while lifeguards will be present to supervise, they may leave their posts in the event of an emergency, noted the City of Long Beach. The city also advises caution, reminding users of the inherent risks associated with aquatic-based activities.
