"This is our new LAX Metro Transit Center station," Edna Stanley, deputy chief operations manager at Metro, told FOX LA, emphasizing its role as a central nexus for both city inhabitants and visitors, additionally, Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins conveyed her optimism about this development, notably concerning regional connectivity and events on the horizon, saying in a statement obtained by ABC7, "We're so excited that this will meet the needs and expectations of world travelers, especially given the global events that our region is going to be hosting."
While passengers await the completion of the LAX People Mover, anticipated later this year, free shuttle buses are ferrying travelers every 10 minutes to the airport terminals from the new transit station, as detailed by ABC7. Metro also commemorates this occasion by offering free rides across its network throughout the weekend, inviting residents and visitors to explore the new station and familiarize themselves with the enhanced transit services.
When addressing safety concerns and the community's hesitance towards using public transit, Stephanie Wiggins affirmed Metro's commitment to security, "We want to make sure that folks feel safe, and part of that is having 24-hour security," she told CBS News Los Angeles; this new facility is more than just a Metro stop it includes a bike hub, restrooms, and a variety of transportation alternatives providing convenience for local and international visitors alike and Wiggins signifies this with "It's been decades talking about how do we get transit to the airport," she said, "All the great transit systems across the world have one thing in common, and that's a direct connection to the airport."
