Deputy Probation Officer Michael Solis is facing charges for allegedly smuggling drugs into Sylmar's Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced the charges, which include conspiracy to possess for sale and bringing controlled substances into a juvenile facility. According to a statement from the District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman, "Trafficking illegal drugs to juveniles is unconscionable under any circumstances, let alone as a government employee taking advantage of vulnerable youth in need of guidance and support."
This case against Solis, who has been a deputy probation officer, presents a grim picture of the individual who was trusted to protect and guide the youth in detention. Between May and August of 2023, it is alleged that Solis conspired with a detained youth to sell alprazolam, also known as Xanax, for hundreds of dollars. If convicted on all charges, he could face up to three years in state prison.
According to the District Attorney's office, the internal investigation that led to Solis's charges was a collaborative effort between the Probation Department's Internal Affairs Bureau and the DA's Bureau of Investigation. Deputy District Attorney Kristopher Gay of the Justice System Integrity Division is prosecuting the case filed for warrant last Thursday.
