The Los Angeles community is reeling from a fatal incident as the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is seeking the public's assistance in tracking down a driver responsible for a deadly hit-and-run collision. According to the LAPD News Release, the event took place on the evening of June 27, 2025, at 9:12 p.m., wherein a light-colored SUV, possibly white, hit a 62-year-old pedestrian named Danny Estis on Western Avenue at the intersection of 83rd Street.

Following the collision, the culprit vehicle was seen fleeing the scene without providing any assistance to the victim or reporting the incident, despite the legal obligations to do so. The aftermath of the impact proved fatal for Estis, as Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene. In an age where surveillance and social media reign supreme, the absence of immediate justice in such incidents can be all the more glaring to a community on edge.

In efforts to hold the responsible party accountable, the LAPD has highlighted an existing reward program that could boost public engagement in the investigation. Established by the City Council amendment back on April 15, 2015, the Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund offers up to $50,000 for information leading to the identification, and conviction or through a civil compromise, of the hit-and-run driver.

Authorities also took this opportunity to remind both drivers and pedestrians of their respective roles in ensuring road safety. Motorists are urged to "pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves," as part of their collision protocol. Pedestrians, on the other hand, should "exercise caution when crossing streets, obey traffic lights, cross within marked crosswalks, and obey the rules of the road."

Any individuals in possession of information pertinent to the case are encouraged to come forward and contact Officer Green at the South Traffic Division by dialing 213-677-9924, or contact the LA Regional Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS or via the "P3 Tips" mobile app.
