As temperatures rise and schools break for summer, Mayor Muriel Bowser has announced a variety of free programs available for youth across Washington, DC. According to a statement from the Mayor’s Office, offerings include summer camps, field trips, STEM-focused activities, and library events.
The announcement also included a reminder about safety during the current heat wave, expected to last until tomorrow. Mayor Bowser advised residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity, and use available city resources such as pools, spray parks, and cooling centers.
Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn highlighted the launch of the MOST-DC portal, which helps families find summer programs by location, age group, and cost. “Our job is to make opportunity easy to access and hard to miss,” Kihn stated in the press release.
Families can still enroll their children in many of the available programs. The summer initiative is a joint effort by the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education, DC Public Schools, Department of Parks and Recreation, DC Public Library, and the Office of Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes.
