Jaime Eduardo Gonzalez-Camacho, a 29-year-old Mexican national, made his initial appearance in a United States court today after being charged with the federal offense of re-entering the country illegally following three prior deportations, according to documentation from a U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Nevada statement. Gonzalez-Camacho, who has two prior felony convictions for drug trafficking, is set to have a preliminary hearing on July 3, 2025, before United States Magistrate Judge Daniel J. Albregts.
In the course of court proceedings, it was revealed that Gonzalez-Camacho's previous expulsions from the U.S. occurred on November 2, 2017, November 10, 2017, and most recently, June 9, 2020. His illegal re-entry after these deportations led to the current charge. Following an arrest by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for drug-related offenses in 2023, ICE was alerted to Gonzalez-Camacho's presence in the United States once again.
On April 23, 2023, Gonzalez-Camacho was apprehended and faced multiple drug trafficking charges, including three counts of drug trafficking, three counts of selling and transporting controlled substances, one count of possession with intent to sell a controlled substance, and one count of conspiracy to violate the Uniform Controlled Substances Act. After completing a state prison sentence ranging from 26 to 72 months, he was placed in ICE custody last Tuesday, as detailed by official court documents.
Should Gonzalez-Camacho be convicted of the immigration charge, he faces a maximum statutory penalty that could result in two years in federal prison, a one-year term of supervised release, a $250,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment. The case, spearheaded by the ICE Salt Lake City, Las Vegas Sub-Office, is being prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Sigal Chattah and Jason Knight, ICE's Salt Lake City Field Office Director.
The public is encouraged to report crimes and suspected violations by contacting 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or submitting a tip online. It's important to remember that the charges against Gonzalez-Camacho are accusations at this stage, and like any defendant in the U.S. judicial process, he is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
