The Council chambers in Milwaukee will be adorned with more than just the usual decorum come tomorrow morning, as the Common Council convenes to both deliberate on civic matters and celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month with a special ceremony at 9 a.m., as reported by the city's official announcement. Alderperson JoCasta Zamarripa along with Alderman Peter Burgelis are set to honor several local stalwarts for their outstanding contributions to the LGBTQ+ community during this time.

The honorees, to be recognized for their efforts, include community leaders such as Adriana “Nanis” Rodriguez, Executive Director of Public Allies Wisconsin, alongside historian, activist, and philanthropist Brice D. Smith. With them being honored, journalists Gerron Jordan of WISN12 and Aaron Maybin from FOX6 will join. The ceremony is a part of a larger Pride Month schedule, which kicked off with Mayor Cavalier Johnson and council members, in union with The Hive employee resource group, raising the Intersex Progress Pride Flag above City Hall, Zamarripa highlighted the flag's significance. "This flag doesn’t just flutter in the wind - it waves a message loud and clear: You are seen. You are welcome. You matter," Zamarripa said according to the City of Milwaukee news release.

But the festivities are not limited to proclamations and flag raisings. In a show of solidarity and celebration, Milwaukee will witness the 21st edition of the Pride Parade on Sunday, June 8 at 2 p.m. The procession is planned to add life and color to Walker's Point, traversing from Scott St. to Seeboth St. along 2nd St. Burgelis spoke of the event's deeper purpose, remarking on the City of Milwaukee website, "This isn’t just a parade - it’s a moving declaration to 'Remember, Resist, and Rejoice!'" encouraging locals and visitors to join the march and stand together for inclusivity and equality.

The weekend's activities promise to transform the streets into a vivid display of pride and community engagement. Residents and allies are invited to join waving the collective banner of support, as Burgelis stated on the City of Milwaukee, "We invite residents, neighbors, and visitors to come out, celebrate, and stand shoulder to shoulder in support of inclusion and equality," indicating the inclusive intent of the Pride proceedings and the anticipated involvement of Milwaukee’s citizens.
