The scorching heat wave that Milwaukee has been grappling with continues to squeeze the region, as the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a reminder of an Extreme Heat Warning in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening. Residents of Kenosha, Milwaukee, and Racine Counties are cautioned to expect "dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 105," according to the NWS warning. The NWS advises staying hydrated, seeking air-conditioned shelter, and checking up on those most vulnerable to these oppressive conditions.
In tandem with the heat advisory, there are storms afoot. The NWS forecast anticipates "a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 9pm and midnight," with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A line of storms expected to arise over central Wisconsin could bring a few strong storms replete with gusty winds and heavy rainfall.
The outlook for the upcoming days suggests no respite from the erratic conditions. Showers and thunderstorms are on the cards from tomorrow through Thursday. While the heat is projected to ease off a tad, with highs hovering around the low 80s, the persistent threat of precipitation continues to hang over the region like a leaden cloak.
As for the Hazardous Weather Outlook, the National Weather Service cautions that hot and humid conditions are to maintain their grip today, with heat indices climbing between 100 and 105. "Spotter activation may be needed Monday afternoon and evening," due to the potential for severe thunderstorms as per NWS statement.
