Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) officials have laid out a comprehensive action plan in response to the lead contamination crisis afflicting local schools, with the MPS Superintendent, Brenda Cassellius, presenting the district's Lead Action Plan Report in a session preceding the school board meeting, as detailed by FOX6 News.
The initiative, informed by dialogue with the Milwaukee Health Department, aims to systematically address and purge the perilous lead levels from affected institutions; subsequent to this development, MPS leadership has also been in the throes of examining the proposed $1.5 billion budget for the forthcoming academic year during Tuesday's assembly, welcoming public discourse on the financial blueprint, this according to TMJ4.
Amplifying their efforts, MPS has broadened their lead remediation strategy to include an extra 14 schools where Summer cleanup ventures are now underway, schools such as ALBA, Auer Avenue, and MacDowell amongst others, were listed in the expanded remediation and superintendent Brenda Cassellius delivered these updates in a recent school board meeting, with detailed information offered in a report from WISN.
The rollout for rectifying these toxic exposures is not without its challenges, one phase cascades into another, nine schools had been closed the past school year due to lead concerns, yet seven have since resumed operations after clearance, progress persists at Brown Street Academy and Westside Academy.
