As the gentle breezes of summer roll into Milwaukee, residents are bracing for a mix of sun and potential thunderstorms. The National Weather Service Milwaukee has alerted locals to be prepared for a sultry day, with afternoon heat index values climbing to the mid-to-upper 90s. The current temperature sits at a comfortable 72°F.
The forecast promises a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms later today, mostly kicking in after 4 pm. While the morning starts off mostly sunny, those considering an afternoon stroll should keep an eye on the shifting winds. As the evening rolls in, thunderstorms become more likely, with a 40 percent chance of nature's light show. "Scattered thunderstorms are possible mainly this afternoon and evening, along and ahead of a cold front. Gusty winds may occur with the strongest storms," cautions the NWS in their latest briefing.
Expect changing conditions this week. Thunderstorms are possible Monday, with a 50% chance of rain, gusty winds, and small hail. Skies clear up Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing sunshine and highs in the low to mid-80s. More storms could develop later in the week.
As Independence Day approaches, the weather seems to take a cue from the holiday's spirit – bright and booming. The NWS outlines "a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms" during the day, maintaining mostly sunny skies with a patriotic high near 86. Festivities on Friday night, however, might encounter a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms, with more showers anticipated for Saturday.
Safety remains a priority, and while full-on weather watch seems unnecessary, "Spotter activation should not be needed," according to the NWS advisory. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant throughout the week, especially during times of increased storm probabilities, and to keep abreast of weather updates as they develop.
