The sobering silence of an unanswered morning call now marks the days for Sheila Kyler, whose son Emmanuel Kyler lies critically injured following a hit-and-run incident in Anne Arundel County. As she recounted in an anguished plea for information and justice, WBALTV reported, "I told my son, 'You fight in there, and I'll fight out here,'" Sheila Kyler expressed, revealing the deep resolve beneath her grief.
Early last Saturday morning, after a night out with friends, the 22-year-old was awaiting an Uber when, for reasons yet unclear, he began to walk near Aviation Boulevard and Dorsey Road, an area not known for its streetlights, recounted WMAR-2 News, Anne Arundel County police, having received several 911 calls about an individual in the road, were dispatched to the scene; however, before they could reach him, Emmanuel became yet another victim of the asphalt's indifference, he was struck, twice, the first driver fled, the second, who remained and provided CPR, likely saving his life.
Emmanuel, a recent graduate from the University of Maryland, where he studied business administration, now faces head and spinal cord injuries, with a long road of recovery ahead, as his mother, Sheila Kyler, faces the uncertainty of catching the hit-and-run perpetrator. The family's attorney, David Ellin, noted the discovery of a piece of a tan or bronze vehicle left at the scene, urging the public to report any such vehicle with corresponding damage to the authorities, as stated by WBALTV.
