To clamp down on retail theft, the Riverside County Sheriff's Office rolled out an operation with the Perris Sheriff's Station Special Enforcement Team working in unison with the Burglary Robbery Suppression Team and Loss Prevention agents on June 5th. This initiative was carried out on the 1800 block of Perris Boulevard to proactively tackle theft whilst ensuring the safety of the city's businesses and patrons, according to a statement on the Riverside Sheriff’s Office website. The operation resulted in multiple arrests, witnessing individuals in the act of stealing goods, and bringing them into custody peacefully.

Among those arrested were Sheila Howard, a 60-year-old Perris resident apprehended for petty theft with priors Curtis Lanier, aged 36, from Lake Elsinore nabbed for petty theft with priors along with outstanding felony warrants, and 56-year-old Karen Springer of Moreno Valley, who was brought in for petty theft and existing misdemeanor warrants related to theft. Others included Ramona Tapia, 60, of Moreno Valley for shoplifting, Travon Freeman, 24, from Perris, detained for petty theft with priors, and Jordyn Fobbs, a 22-year-old from San Jacinto, arrested for burglary and probation violation.”

The operation underscores the ongoing commitment by local law enforcement and the Perris community to combat crimes that adversely affect the local economy. Officials believe that such operations are instrumental in dealing with repeated offenses and in curbing the trends of organized retail crime; they also align with Proposition 36's principles, balancing accountability with prospects for rehabilitation.

The activity of the Perris Special Enforcement Team and Burglary Robbery Suppression Team is set to continue their work to ensure that residents and those passing through can have an unmolested shopping experience, according to the press release by the Riverside Sheriff’s Office.
