A New York man, previously convicted of a felony, has received a state prison sentence ranging from eight to 20 years for a gun possession felony. Daniel Enrique Perez, 52, from Newburgh, was encountered by police in an altered state during a welfare check at a Hilltown Township gas station back in November 2023. The event led to his recent sentencing, Bucks County officials reported.
According to Bucks County Government, this incident occurred on November 26, 2023, when police responded to a call at the Sunoco gas station on 1501 Bethlehem Pike. Perez was discovered at around 12:11 a.m. next to a vehicle at a fuel pump, unresponsive and in an altered state of mind.
The trial that concluded in April lasted for two days, and a Bucks County jury found Perez guilty on the charge of a person not to possess a firearm, a ruling in line with the stringent laws barring felons from having guns. During the sentencing, Common Pleas Judge Stephen A. Corr noted that the sentence was within the aggravated range of sentencing guidelines.
Judge Corr's sentence aims to reflect the seriousness of the offense and aligns with the community's expectations for gun law enforcement. "On Friday, Common Pleas Judge Stephen A. Corr handed down the sentence, which falls within the aggravated range in the sentencing guidelines," as detailed by the Bucks County Government website. The severity of the sentence highlights the ongoing commitment to firearm regulation enforcement, especially concerning individuals with prior felony convictions.
