Jayla Call, a 31-year-old woman, has been charged in connection with the shooting of two Mifflin Township police officers, a crime allegedly committed by Daveonte Dixon. Call is facing two class-3 felony charges for obstructing justice and tampering with evidence. According to ABC6, her bond was set at $250,000 during her first court appearance on Monday. Court documents show that Call was aware of Dixon's fugitive status and that he had been at her Obetz apartment several hours prior to the arrival of deputies.
In a recent turn of events, video footage released by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office depicted a man identified as Dixon exiting the passenger side of a car and subsequently firing at officers during an attempted traffic stop. Relay according to FOX28, Dixon later fired "several rounds" from within the residence at deputies, who engaged in a standoff that concluded with Dixon suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He is currently in critical condition at Grant Medical Center.
Call, who was inside the apartment when deputies served a search warrant, exited and later confessed to deleting text messages on her phone that were between Dixon and his girlfriend while the approach of deputies was imminent. "She also reportedly told detectives she knew Dixon was a fugitive and that he was at her home for several hours," FOX28 reports.
Additional details provided by The Columbus Dispatch confirm that Call was arrested on May 31, and her arraignment was scheduled for June 2. Now back in court, the case against Jayla Call is shaping up as a stark reminder of the lengths to which individuals may go to shield those running from the law. Call's next court appearance is slated for June 10.
