Shaking up their game plan, the Orlando Magic have decided to pass on the team options for center Moe Wagner and guard Caleb Houstan. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, while Wagner's option was pegged at $11 million, Houstan stood at a lower $2.1 million. The strategy here might involve some re-signing magic, since the team still holds onto Bird rights for the pair, which keeps the door open for them to re-sign as free agents.
Hitting his stride before a grim ACL injury, Wagner was putting up an impressive career-best average of 12.9 points and 36 percent from the perimeter, as reported by Sports Illustrated. Despite being sidelined after just 30 games this past season, Houstan was seen on the upward slope, sinking a solid 40 percent of his threes in his third year.
The adjustments don't stop there. The Magic are hunting for a point guard who can deliver from downtown, a gap they didn't plug in the Draft and are now looking to the market to fill. Wagner, before his setback, proved he carries the offensive firepower for the team, while defensive duties seemed to suit Goga Bitadze and Wendell Carter Jr. better. The question hanging in the air is whether Wagner, who once averaged 12.9 points while shooting 56.2% from the field, according to WFTV, will settle for a lighter paycheck to stay or cast his lot elsewhere.
