Last night's tragic events unfolded on Oxnard's roadways at around 8:42 p.m., where a three-vehicle collision left 19-year-old motorcyclist Justin Martin dead, according to a news release from the Oxnard Police Department. Responding officers at the scene of Saviers Road and Elm Street discovered Martin critically injured after being ejected from his motorcycle. Despite emergency responders' efforts, Martin was pronounced deceased at the intersection.
Involved in the incident was a 2004 Honda Accord driven by Hugo Garrido, 31, which came out of the collision unharmed, and Sheila Franco, 33, who sustained minor injuries. After the initial crash between the motorcycle and the Honda, the latter vehicle rolled forward, coming to a halt after colliding with a GMC Sierra pickup truck that had been caught waiting at the light.
The driver of the pickup, Crystal Rivera, 33, together with her passenger, Jazmin Guerra, 26, were uninjured and witnessed the chain of events, providing statements to the officers at the scene. The Honda Accord, attempting to make a left turn on a green light, turned into the motorcycle's path, which was going straight through the intersection on a corresponding green light, according to the preliminary investigation findings by the traffic police.
