Las Vegas - The Palms Casino Resort is once again in search of a new general manager after announcing the departure of Stephen Thayer from the position, lasting less than a year on the job. A representative for the Palms confirmed his exit, while the details behind the departure remain undisclosed.
Thayer stepped into the role of general manager in September, succeeding Cynthia Kiser Murphey, who resigned in June of the prior year. According to a report by News 3, before his appointment at the Palms, Thayer held the position of general manager at The STRAT hotel-casino in Las Vegas and has been affiliated with executive roles at Caesars Entertainment in both Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
The question of who will take over the reins to manage the day-to-day operations of the off-Strip casino-hotel has not been addressed by the company spokesperson. “No reason was given for Thayer’s departure, and it is unclear who will oversee the day-to-day operations of the casino-hotel,” per Review Journal. The process for appointing Thayer's successor has not been publicly laid out by the casino's representatives.
Owned by the San Manuel Gaming and Hospitality Authority, Palms made headlines earlier this year with their decision to offer 3:2 blackjack, a move favoring the players compared to the standard 6:5 blackjack found at most competing establishments on the Las Vegas Strip. The California-based San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, which operates the gaming authority, acquired Palms from Red Rock Resorts in 2021 for a sum of $650 million. Meanwhile, former general manager Stephen Thayer has not responded to inquiries regarding his recent departure from the Palms.
