A man from Penn Hills is facing serious charges following a fatal car crash in Monroeville last year. Marcus Alston Sr., 49, is accused of causing a collision that led to the death of a woman and left three others injured. According to WPXI, Alston's vehicle was traveling at speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone when the crash occurred.
On the night of November 3, 2024, first responders arrived at the scene of the collision on the 3700 block of William Penn Highway around midnight. Investigations revealed that Alston's Nissan Pathfinder had slammed into the rear of a Toyota RAV4, each vehicle carrying two people at the time of the incident. As reported by CBS News Pittsburgh, it was confirmed that Alston's blood alcohol content was 0.233 percent—nearly three times the legal driving limit.
The consequences of the crash were dire. All four individuals involved were taken to local hospitals, with Alston's passenger later pronounced dead. The victim was identified as Shiya Young. In light of the investigation, Alston is now charged with homicide by vehicle and homicide by vehicle while DUI, among other offenses. Police records also showed Alston had a suspended driver's license at the time of the accident.
