Border vigilance in Progreso, Texas, recently led to the apprehension of a man wanted on a grave charge of indecency with a child. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Progreso International Bridge arrested Noe Magallen, a 71-year-old U.S. citizen, after a referral to secondary inspection revealed an outstanding felony warrant tied to a sexual offense involving a child, as reported by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
During the procedure which took place on Thursday, CBP officers utilized federal databases and biometric verification to quickly confirm Magallen's identity and discover his connection to the warrant issued by the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office. "Our frontline CBP officers maintained their vigilance and uncovered a man wanted on a significant alleged offense of a sexual nature involving a child," Port Director Michael Martinez told U.S. Customs and Border Protection. This emphasizes CBP's unwavering focus on its role in not just enforcing the statutes of border security but to actively safeguard the community from individuals accused of serious crimes.
Following the apprehension, Magallen was transferred to local authorities for the adjudication of his case. The arrest highlights the critical role that the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) plays in law enforcement cooperation, facilitating the exchange of vital information regarding outstanding warrants and enabling agencies to extend their reach in pursuing alleged offenders.
CBP has, according to their records, previously leveraged NCIC data to detain individuals wanted across a wide spectrum of allegations, including homicide, escape, and sexual child abuse. As a matter of course, criminal charges are nothing but allegations until the court proves otherwise – all defendants stand presumed innocent until they are proved guilty.
