Raleigh residents are getting a say in how their city's transportation future unfolds. The City of Raleigh Transportation Department is hosting an open house dubbed "Raleigh in Motion," where the public is invited to give their input on the forthcoming Active Mobility Plan (AMP) and the Downtown Mobility Study (DMS). The event takes place next Wednesday, June 11, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the John Chavis Community Center.
"Raleigh in Motion isn't just about streets and sidewalks—it’s about building a connected, inclusive city that works for all who live, work, and play here," Barbara Godwin, City of Raleigh Bicycle & Pedestrian Program Manager, told the City of Raleigh. Attendees will get the opportunity to directly influence—and indeed, to shape—transportation policy by exploring and providing feedback on draft recommendations.
The focus of the event is on real-time community engagement. Residents can drop by at any time during the specified hours to meet with staff from Mobility Strategy & Infrastructure, Raleigh Vision Zero, GoRaleigh Transit, among others. The setup will include interactive stations designed specifically for attendees to provide their insights and suggestions. Also included in the open house are activities for children, making it a family-friendly event.
With a shared goal of creating a unified, people-first transportation network, this open house is seen as a critical step in bringing those plans to fruition. "If you’ve ever thought about how to make it safer or easier to get around Raleigh, this is your chance to be heard," added Godwin, as mentioned by the City of Raleigh.
For those considering to attend, the Raleigh in Motion open house promises a relaxed atmosphere complete with light refreshments. Offering a free and open platform for dialogue, the city intends to ensure that the voices of those who walk, roll, bike, bus, scoot, or drive through Raleigh are heard and integrated into the future planning of the city's active mobility network. More details about the event can be found on the City of Raleigh's website.
