
The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a Red Flag Warning for southern Nevada and parts of northwestern Arizona from 12 PM to 8 PM today. Winds may reach up to 35 mph due to a shortwave trough moving through the area, increasing dry and windy conditions that raise the risk of wildfires, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures will rise above normal this week. The National Weather Service expects "Major" HeatRisk in desert valleys and "Moderate" HeatRisk in higher elevations by mid-to-late week. High temperatures are forecast on Wednesday and Thursday, then slightly cooler conditions are expected as a longwave trough moves in. Gusts of 25 to 30 knots are expected near Harry Reid International Airport, with VFR conditions continuing. Temperatures between 18Z and 04Z may reach 100°F or higher, with a peak near 108°F around 23Z.
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a "Critical" fire weather risk for Clark County, northern Mohave County, and Washington County due to strong winds and very low humidity. A Red Flag Warning is in effect, and additional fire weather concerns are expected from Thursday through Friday as southwesterly winds of 25 to 35 mph return. Southern Nevada and northwestern Arizona are included in a 40% risk area for strong winds and low humidity during this period. The National Weather Service urges the public to stay alert, report weather-related incidents, and for spotters to provide timely updates to help manage wildfire risks.
