After more than thirty years of steadfast public service, Dan Otto, a long-time fixture in Rockwall County law enforcement, has announced his retirement. Otto, who planted his roots in the county back in 1981, graduated from Rockwall High School before serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Gulf War and later, as part of the Texas National Guard. His law enforcement career began in earnest in 1993 when he took a position as a jailer with the Rockwall County Sheriff's Office.
Hailed for his commitment and work ethic, Dan Otto quickly rose through the ranks, transitioning to become a patrol officer in 1996 and to ultimately earn the title of Sergeant in 1999. Having served under revered Sheriffs Jacques Kiere and Harold Eavenson, Otto's career has been marked by an eagerness to 'just' serve the community. His journey was not to unduly slow down when he was appointed Constable of Precinct 3 by the Commissioners Court on September 14, 2020, filling a vacancy created by the passing of Constable Tom Egan, as stated by Rockwall County.
Winning the subsequent election in November 2020, and again in November 2024, Otto officially began his most recent term in January 2025. His tenure as Constable saw him continue a tradition of community service and dedication, characteristics which have become synonymous with his name in Rockwall County law enforcement circles.
