The Houston Fire Department is actively engaged in a search mission on Lake Houston after reports of a 20-year-old woman going missing following a jet ski incident. According to FOX 26 Houston, the distress call was received by authorities at around 1:21 p.m. yesterday. The search, initially a rescue operation, has grimly transitioned to recovery, indicating diminishing hope for the woman's safe return.
Adding to the precariousness of the situation, the Houston Fire Department could not confirm whether the woman was wearing a life jacket, a crucial detail that often dictates the urgency and nature of such water-based search operations. The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, became the subject of the Houston Police Department's and their dive team's attention, having inherited the case, as reported by FOX 26 Houston.
Meanwhile, HPD Dive Team members are utilizing sonar technology in an effort to locate the young woman, as noted by ABC 13. A group of family and friends, gathered at Deussen Park for a day of relaxation and water recreation, witnessed the tragedy unfold when the 20-year-old reportedly fell from a WaveRunner and failed to resurface.
HPD Captain Kenneth Campbell highlighted the risk of such water activities without proper safety gear, stating, "Right now the reports are some had floation devices on and some did not," as per an interview obtained by ABC 13. "And one of the person's without, at the very back, fell off the jet ski. They did not come out of the water, the people operating the jet ski searched the area, called 911."
