High pressure north of Hawaii will continue to bring moderate trade winds through Friday, with winds expected to strengthen and become locally windy by Sunday. Brief showers are likely at night and in the early morning, mainly affecting windward and mountain areas. High cirrus clouds may also be present, "likely enhancing sunrise and sunset colors," according to the National Weather Service.
A ridge of high pressure is expected to lower humidity and stabilize the atmosphere this weekend. "The combination of drier humidity levels and stronger winds may elevate fire weather concerns from late Sunday morning through the afternoon hours." An easterly wave is forecast to move in from Thursday to Friday, possibly bringing increased showers, including to some leeward areas. "Model cross sections suggest this passing trough will lift the boundary layer with temperature inversion rising into the 8,000 to 9,000 foot range," as reported by the National Weather Service.
A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect through Thursday for areas such as Maalaea Bay and the Pailolo Channel, with additional regions possibly included over the weekend. A small south swell will peak tonight into Thursday, raising surf along south-facing shores. East-facing shores will see rougher conditions this weekend, while north shore surf stays small for now but could increase early next week, as stated by the National Weather Service.
