As summer heat approaches, the City of Pittsburgh gears up to bring some respite to its residents by opening most of its pools on June 16. A recent release announced that, amid the city's preparations for the upcoming pool season, 16 CitiParks pools will be made available for public use. This comes after the city made considerable efforts to staff these aquatic facilities with fully qualified lifeguards. As reported by WPXI, approximately 162 lifeguards have been onboarded for this purpose, ensuring the safety and smooth operation of the pool locations.

Mayor Ed Gainey made it a point to acknowledge the hard work invested to swiftly and surely recruit over 160 lifeguards, saying, "Thanks to the continued hard work and dedication of the CitiParks team in recruiting and hiring lifeguards for the 2025 Pool Season, we're proud to open 16 pools this summer," according to a statement reported by CBS News Pittsburgh. Gainey went on to emphasize the significance of these communal spaces, which are designed not only to provide relief from the heat but also to offer opportunities for social gatherings and recreation.

However, the summer concessions come with a note of patience for the communities of Homewood and Sheraden. These neighborhoods will need to wait a while longer, as their pools remain closed due to ongoing renovations. The rest of the city's pools will serve a variety of swimming needs, from adult lap swim sessions to open swim times for families and individuals. Most notably, the hours for lap swimming and open swim times have been laid out in detail, with adults having designated slots at the beginning and end of each day at multiple pools.
