Henderson police, collaborating with the FBI Criminal Apprehension Team, have apprehended a man in connection with a shooting incident at Cowabunga Bay Water Park on May 30th. Diamante Burton, 25, was arrested near the 6000 block of Boulder Highway on Tuesday, as reported by FOX5 Las Vegas. Facing multiple charges, including attempted murder and battery with a deadly weapon, Burton's arrest stems from an event that escalated into a violent confrontation at the popular water park.
Located on Galleria Drive at North Gibson Road and West Galleria Drive, the water park became a crime scene late in the evening when Henderson police were first called to a large fight. After dispersing the crowd and leaving, officers had to return to the park due to a second altercation that resulted in shots being fired and one man sustaining multiple apparent gunshot wounds. He was subsequently hospitalized with unknown injuries, as 8 News Now described in their report.
Burton, who was detained shortly after the incident, has now been formally arrested and charged. According to police statements, his charges include three counts of discharging a gun where a person might be endangered, assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. The shooting resulted from a confrontation after a large fight broke out, which then prompted a secondary brawl leading to the gunfire, according to FOX 5 Vegas.
This incident follows another unrelated emergency at the same venue earlier the same day involving an employee being hospitalized due to exposure to pool chemicals. Police have reiterated their belief that the incident involving the shooting was isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. As the investigation continues, no further details have been revealed concerning the condition of the injured victim or any additional suspects, as per FOX 5 Vegas.
