Early morning, a routine inspection escalated into a police chase through the sleepy streets of Southern Ventura. The SVPD reports that at approximately 12:47 AM last Saturday, an officer on patrol noticed a cyclist weaving through Bigelow Ave. and Larch St. with a conspicuous absence of a bicycle light. What should have been a simple traffic stop for the lighting violation took an unexpected turn as the bicyclist chose flight over compliance, prompting a pursuit by the SVPD officer.
The chase was short-lived; the cyclist, later identified as 33-year-old Rudy Mora from Filmore, lost control and crashed, offering the officer a chance to detain him without further incident. A subsequent search revealed more than just disregard for traffic safety. According to a statement obtained by the Simi Valley Police Department, the police found Mora to have a loaded firearm and narcotics.
The recovered firearm and ammunition, coupled with the controlled substances, culminated in Mora facing a series of charges. He was booked at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Pre-Trial Detention Facility for Resisting Arrest, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Felon in Possession of Controlled Substance, and Possession of Controlled Substance while Armed.
