
An estimated 8,000 people gathered on Las Vegas Boulevard last Saturday for the "No Kings" protest against President Donald Trump's administration. The demonstration was part of a series of nationwide events and included participants from various backgrounds, along with members of Congress. Protester Gina Robinson stated, "We are living in a country that we are going to lose democracy," and emphasized, "It is important for us to defend democracy and the way we do that is by having our voice heard." Southern Nevada Congresswoman Dina Titus said, "We are here to send a message across the country and around the world that we do not have any kings here. We do not have any emperors. We do not have any dictators," as reported by News 3LV.
Protesters moved through parts of Las Vegas Boulevard, including between Clark and Bridger Avenue, which were closed due to the demonstration. According to 8 News Now, authorities reported 15 arrests related to the protest for various offenses. One individual was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, and another was arrested for a gross misdemeanor involving possession of a dangerous weapon. Police also confiscated a bat from one person, who was then taken into custody.
During the demonstrations, EMS workers were stationed by organizers to address safety concerns related to high temperatures. Some attendees also distributed water to help others stay hydrated. Political strategist Tal Eslick stated, “Whether it is this last week in Los Angeles or it is January 6th, a small number of knuckleheads can sort of ruin it for everybody,” and called for future protests to remain peaceful, as per News 3LV.
The "No Kings" demonstrations in Las Vegas were part of a series of protests held across the country. The events took place on President Trump's birthday and during a military parade in Washington, D.C.
